A Voice for Independent Higher Education in Alabama

AAICU provides a voice for independent higher education in Alabama at the State House, in Congress, and before agencies, boards, and commissions. Working through the Public Policy Committee and Board of Trustees, AAICU promotes sound fiscal and public policy on matters of critical importance to its member colleges and universities.

Relevant matters include general and special appropriations for student grants and scholarships, legislation related to higher education, postsecondary students, and non-profit organizations, and education-related public policy issues before agencies, boards, and commissions.

AAICU Legislative Priorities

Alabama's independent colleges and universities would like you to join us in showing our appreciation to members of the legislature for their support state supported scholarships and grants for higher education. Without scholarships and grants, many students could not afford the cost of higher education. We encourage you to write a personal letter to your state legislators and thank them for their support. Encourage them to invest in the future of Alabama by funding to the fullest extent possible scholarships like the Alabama Student Grant Program(ASGP) and the Alabama Student Assistance Program(ASAP). Regular increases to these programs are needed to keep current with the rising costs of higher education.
