Founded in 1961 and affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention, the University of Mobile provides a unique combination of academic excellence and personal attention in a distinctively Christian environment. Nearly 1,600 students are enrolled at the university in the College of Arts and Sciences and the schools of Business, Christian Studies, Education, Nursing, Center for Performing Arts and Center for Adult Programs. The 800-acre campus is located 10 minutes north of historic downtown Mobile and about an hour from sunny Gulf Coast beaches. The University of Mobile is among the top master’s-level universities in the South, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2008 edition of “America’s Best Colleges” and has been recognized among “America’s Best Christian Colleges” for 11 consecutive years. More than 70 percent of UM faculty hold a Ph.D. or the highest degree in their field. In addition to their SACS accreditation the University holds membership with and is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music. The Associate’s, Bachelor’s and Master’s in nursing are accredited by the National League of Nursing. The B.S.N. and A.D.N nursing programs are approved by the Alabama Board of Nursing. The athletic training education program is approved by the Joint Review Commission on Educational Programs in Athletic Training (JRC-AT) and accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHAP). The University’s School of Business is nationally accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs.
