AAICU Awarded $5,000 Grant!

 28-Oct-2010

AAICU has recently been awarded a $5,000 Capacity-Building Grant from the Foundation for Independent Higher Education. This new grant program was created to enhance State Fund Members (like AAICU) fund-raising capacity. AAICU proposed to use the $5,000 as leverage for securing additional scholarship funds for minority students to help provide leveraging funds to energize donors and enhance scholarships for low-income, minority students in the state of Alabama. AAICU looks to partner with several Alabama based organizations that focus on impacting the lives of young minorities through scholarships and plans to offer additional awards for students who choose to attend one of AAICU's member institutions.
AAICU's member institution's enrollment of ethnic minorities is over 11,284 students and more than 90% of AAICU's students qualify for financial aid. Our member institutions currently enroll more low-income, at risk, and minority students than the state's four-year public universities.
AAICU takes pride in being able to tailor scholarships to the philanthropic and business interests of our donors while providing support for all types of students. We appreciate the opportunity to enhance our fundraising capacity and believe that this grant will not only increase our donor base but also help minority students throughout the state who are in need of scholarship aid and who desire a personalized educational experience.
