Concordia College, formerly known as Alabama Lutheran Academy and Junior College, is a historically black (HBCU), four-year liberal arts, coeducational college founded in 1922. It is one of ten post-secondary institutions in the Concordia University System of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.Concordia is located on a 22-acre site in the northeastern section of Selma, the county seat of Dallas County. Selma is approximately 50 miles west of Montgomery, the capital of Alabama, and has a population of approximately 23, 000. Concordia educates students in accord with the teachings of the Christian faith for lives of responsible and effective service in the church and community. Its traditional liberal arts curriculum provides the conceptual framework necessary for analysis and problem solving in society while the fine arts enlighten and enrich the human spirit. Concordia engages its students in programs and activities which identify and meet their spiritual, academic, social and physical needs.
